WebNov 2, 2024 · The present chapter summarizes the current knowledge about the biochemical pathways of proline metabolism and its functions in regulating plant development and physiology both in the absence or presence of stress. 2 Proline Biosynthesis and Degradation: Enzymes and Their Subcellular Localization WebProline (Pro) is a pivotal and multifunctional amino acid that can play a significant role not in just plant developmental processes but also in responses of biotic and abiotic stress. This chapter discusses the mechanism of Pro biosynthesis and the known and putative roles of Pro metabolism enzymes during environmental stress conditions in plants.
